Enriching lives through making everyone count
WHEAT
Caring for womenWHEAT is a southern African grant-maker that supports women-led groups working with violence against women and related social issues. These include economic justice, HIV and AIDS and health, sexual and reproductive rights, young women and girls, women refugee groups, sexual minorities, sustainability, accountability and good governance.
WHEAT is committed to empowering women from rural and peri-urban areas in southern Africa. WHEAT gives grants to women-led Community Based Organisations (CBOs) working in their communities whot would not yet be able to access formal funding for various reasons; including pending registration, pending opening a bank account or skills that still need to be learned within the small organisation. In addition, WHEAT supports these CBOs when they need to learn new skills that would promote their outreach in a more professional and visible manner.
WHEAT encourages CBOs to gain accountability and good governance and helps women become community leaders.
